What got you started in health and fitness?

On February 1, 2007 and I made the decision that changed my life forever.  I began seriously dieting and exercising and as a result lost 45lbs in 4 months.  After achieving this goal, I found that I had a true passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle to support it.  In 2009, I began powerlifting and competed in a USAPL meet.  I placed 3rd overall in my class category and from there, I knew that I could achieve any goal that I put my mind too.  With hard work, determination and the intrinsic motivation to never stop; anything is possible.

I soon found that I loved the feeling that being strong gave me, but something was missing. Which brings me to my current state of training;  I began training for my 1st figure show February 2012.  It has been quite the journey and very different from the powerlifting lifestyle that I had been used to for quite some time.  My diet and training are the keys to success in my quest.  I had an incredible first season of figure competitions placing 2nd in my class at my first show, 1st in my class at the second show, and ended the season with another 2nd place trophy at my third show.  I had an amazing off season and hit the stage again just a week ago at Max Muscle held in Woodbridge, VA on April 20, 2013 where I place 2nd in Figure Class C.  Next on my road map is Jr USA just 2 weeks away.  I love this sport and all that it entails.

My ultimate is goal is to win my pro card.  Every day I am getting stronger as an athlete and that much closer to my goal.

What prompted you to want to step on stage?

After loosing a large amount of weight, for the first time I felt comfortable with myself and confident.  I needed a change of pace from powerlifting as mentioned above.  I wanted to do something different and completely out of my comfort zone.  So I decided to challenge myself. It was then that I decided that my next goal would be to compete in a figure competition. Little did I know that one would lead to many more.   I fell in love with the sport and training required to succeed.  I have an amazing coach that has helped me in so many ways.   Aside from my training as an athlete he has really helped me to see my true potential and what I am really capable of.

What’s your favorite body part to train? Least favorite?

My favorite body part to train is shoulders. I can never seem to get enough. A close second would glutes. I know it sounds a little funny but there is nothing like a tight and lifted butt. My least favorite body part to train would be abs.  I say this because I don’t get the same kind of pump out of working abs as you do other body parts.

Do you have a consistent playlist for when you’re working out?

Variety is key for me.  I listen to iHeart Radio or Pandora during my workouts.  My favorite stations are Rock the Cut Electronic, Electronic Cardio Radio, Lindsey Stirling Radio and Dance Cardio Radio.  You can find me dancing in between sets quite often.  Nothing like getting into your workout with some great music all while burning some extra calories between sets getting your groove on.

Favorite cheat meal?

Hmm. This is a tough one.  I would have to say my favorite cheat meal would be a good cheeseburger with sautéed onions and mushrooms. My boyfriend Rocco makes it best.  And of course for dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth would be red velvet cheesecake for dessert.

Do you have a strong support network for your training and nutrition planning?

I am blessed to have an amazing support network for my training and nutrition plan.  My boyfriend has supported me from day one in my journey as a figure athlete. Additionally, he is a super heavyweight bodybuilding competitor.  We are a team and provide the strong support system needed for our success.   I have an awesome coach that has provide me with the tools succeed.

What do you do for a living? How does your training and nutrition work around that?

I work both a full time job as the Revenues Manager for Candlewood Suites. Additionally, I work part time as a Certified Personal Trainer at Gold’s Gym Clocktower located in Herndon,VA.  I have a very organized and regimented schedule which makes my training and nutrition much easier.  To give you an idea of how I organize my schedule, I prepare all of my food for the week on Sundays.  Monday –Friday I hit the gym at 6:30am to get in my morning cardio, head to work 8:30am-5pm. After work it is back to the gym to get my work out in. After I complete my workout I train a few clients from 6:30pm-8pm.  End my night at the gym with PM Cardio and posing practice.  I then head home to get my clothes and meals together for the next day to do it all over again.  The weekends are a little more laid back as far as schedule goes; however, I always have my meals prepared and ready to go.  Having the organization makes life a lot easier.
