Where do you train? American Family Fitness
Weight On Season: 170ish
Weight Off Season: 190ish
Division(s) You Compete In: Men’s Physique
What got you started in health & fitness?
About 10 years ago I had a check up and my doctor told me I was on the path to hypertension and diabetes if I kept living the glutenous life style.
What prompted you to want to step on stage?
I had been working out for a few years and liked how my body was changing. A trainer at my gym, said he would help me get ready for show. I was around 220lbs pretty chunky. We dieted for 9 months and came down to 147lbs! I needed a goal- end result to strive for and knew I would work my tail off if I were to be evaluated on stage in front of a lot of strangers HA!
Which show was your first show? How many times have you competed since then? Where?
My first show was the Virginia State in Norfolk in 2012 (I believe). I took 4th place to my surprise! Since then I have done around 8 shows including the first Max Muscle and a few subsequent ones after that!
Are you going to compete again? If so, which shows are you targeting?
I’m competing in the NPC Collegiate/Masters National in Pittsburgh.
What’s your favorite body part to train? What exercises?
My favorite body part to train is delts. I used to hate them, but now I look forward to that pump! Favorite exercise would be DB laterals.
What’s your LEAST favorite body part to train? What exercises?
Least favorite to train is arms. I find the movements boring…. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy training, but something about training arms is just kinda blah…
Do you have a consistent playlist for when you’re working out? Any favorites to get you motivated?
I have a list of guilty pleasure that I will not say in fear of judgment! lol
Favorite cheat meal? Go to food?
5 Guys bacon cheeseburger with Cajun fries is by far my favorite cheat meal!
Favorite clean eating meal? Recipe?
My favorite clean meal and one that is currently on my precontest plan is Kale and beef. You saute’ chopped garlic in olive oil with kale. Add cooked ground beef, jasmine rice and a little taco seasoning! BAM!! Delicious!
Do you have a strong support network in place?
I’m blessed to be surrounded by many that support and encourage me on this journey. I work with some amazing teachers who always encourage me and put up with my “stinky” lunches. My best friend Brandon has always been in my corner, pushing me through some intense workouts when I didn’t want to. and Finally, my wife who puts up with my moodiness and is always there to encourage me when I need it!
What do you do for a living? How does your training and nutrition work around that?
I am a high school Government teacher. I teach seniors so it’s almost like talking to little adults. They ask numerous questions about how they can get in shape and every once in a while will join me for a workout. I eat often throughout the day, eating and lecturing is common place in my classroom. I’ve noticed that my students now bring healthy snacks to class, I guess from watching me..lol

I’d Like to thank Brandon Childs for being my first coach and more importantly being my training partner and best friend! Also a huge shout out to Shelby McDaniel at TNT Nutrition for taking my physique to a whole new level!
