Every so often we like to share some of the backgrounds and stories from our competitors. You never know what drew them to the sport. This time around, meet Daniel Malubag!

What got you started in health and fitness?
I got started in fitness when I was a little kid. My grandfather would take me to the back of the house and teach me how to lift weights. From there I was always into working out and being Physically fit.

What prompted you to want to step on stage?
After a shoulder injury from powerlifting a friend convinced me to compete in bodybuilding.

Which show was your first show?
My first show was the Mustang Mania in South Korea.

How many times have you competed since then?
Since then I have competed in 6 competitions.

Are you going to compete again?
I plan on continuing to compete.

Have you already decided on a show or shows?
Yes Next show will be Tournament of Champions in SC, And Nationals in Miami

What’s your favorite body part to train & what exercises?
Legs are my favorite body part to train. I love doing Sissy Squats.

Least favorite & what exercises?
Legs are also my Least Favorite to train because I never trained legs as hard as I do now. I hate squats but always make sure I do them.

Do you have a consistent playlist for when you’re working out?
Dubstep because the beats are always pumping.

Favorite cheat meal?
Pancakes

Favorite clean meal recipe?
Grilled Chicken and roasted broccoli

Do you have a strong support network for your training and nutrition planning?
I try to keep things simple and my wife Tanya is my biggest support line when it comes to meal prep and gym partner.

What do you do for a living?
I am a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army.

How does your training and nutrition work around that?
I work long hours on a daily basis which usually is 15-18 hour workdays I try to get my workouts in either before or after work and get my meals in every opportunity that is there. Some sacrifices I have had to make to be able to prep for shows like rest or free time.
