What got you started in health and fitness?
Even at a young age, I was always involved in some type of sport and was active. I did soccer for four years at a young age, track & field in middle and high school, and competitive cheerleading both in high school and college. My passion and fitness and health led me to earn my B.S. in Kinesiology as well as my M.S. Ed. in Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Virginia. I took up long distance running for about two years, running in a few races including a 10-miler and a half-marathon. While at UVA, I became certified as a personal trainer through AFAA and have almost 5 years of PT experience. I’ve always wanted to get involved in competing in fitness competitions, and most recently competed in my first competition: NPC VA Max Muscle Classic in the bikini division class B, placing top 5, 4th place, out of 14 girls in my class.
My friends, family & coworkers come to me for exercise, nutrition and any health related issues and questions. This is how it has always been. I am their “fitness expert.” 🙂
What prompted you to want to step on stage?
The discipline involved, achieving a goal. I am passionate about fitness and health and I’ve always wanted to compete. Inspiring others through my success all are motivators. This past competition only motivated me more to achieve a higher level in this sport.
Have you competed before the recent MM NPC VA Classic? If so, where and when?
No. This is was my first competition ever.
Are you going to compete again? Have you already decided on a show or shows?
Yes definitely! I’m hooked now:) I plan on competing at the national level at Team U in July in NJ.
What’s your favorite body part to train? Least favorite?
Favorite: Shoulders and legs:)
Least: Chest
Do you have a consistent playlist for when you’re working out?
Yes, I typically stick to a hip-hop and Rap mix I have to get me motivated throughout the workout. However, I do like to put the ipod on shuffle every once in a while to be surprised:)
Favorite cheat meal?
Pizza! I’m also a big sweets person so anything with peanut butter and chocolate involved.
Do you have a strong support network for your training and nutrition planning?
Yes! My coach Q and my mentor Michelle as well as my family, friends, and co-workers. They all help push me along during prep when I feel like quitting.
What do you do for a living? How does your training and nutrition work around that?
Currently, I’m working as a cardiac technician at Virginia Heart as well as a Personal Trainer at Gold’s Gym in Fairfax, VA. I also am a fitness coach for an online program called Bikini Booty Club.
